MITIN is proposing to elucidate the interplay between the insulin signaling pathway and the mitochondrial function

Partner 1

INSTITUT DE RECERCA BIOMÈDICA DE BARCELONA (IRB), Spain

Individual participants:IRB

  • Professor Antonio Zorzano, Project Coordinator
  • Dr David Sebastian, Post Doc fellow (collaborator). Contact: david.sebastianarrobairbbarcelona.org
  • Dr Juan Pablo Muñoz. Post Doc fellow, Contact: juan.munozarrobairbbarcelona.org
  • Dr. Maria Angeles Diaz, Post Doc Fellow, contact: angeles.diazarrobairbbarcelona.org
  • Eduard Noguera, PhD student (collaborator), contact: eduard.nogueraarrobairbbarcelona.org
  • Dr. Xavier Testar, Researcher (collaborator), contact: xtestar@ub.edu

Description: The group of Prof. Zorzano from IRB has a solid background on the study of the molecular genetics and regulation of metabolic processes involved in glucose uptake and signalling as well as on the research on mitochondrial metabolism. IRB has sufficient competence and critical mass to become a driving force of the project and will act as Project Coordinator and therefore will lead WP8 (Project Management). IRB will be responsible for the study of the impact of mitochondrial dynamics in cultured cells and in mice models (WP3) and he will lead in WP5 the experimental verification of the strongest associations detected. Accumulated experience in studies in insulin-sensitive cells, KO mice models that are currently under development in the participating laboratory as well as resources available at IRB such as a genome wide library or a Microarray facility will be used for carrying out these tasks.
